What Are Minerals?

Minerals are essential. Without minerals, your body wouldn’t be able to execute all its biological functions and you would die. Minerals are also an essential part of your body’s power to practice intelligent cell function. Cells are perpetually being renewed and this just couldn’t happen without minerals.

A lack of minerals creates miserable cell reproduction and that makes you vulnerable to chronic and potential killing diseases. A growing number of reports even link cancer to a lack of minerals. So the obvious important question is not What Are Minerals but….

“How do I get enough minerals into my system?”

Well, a healthy diet will work wonders, that’s for sure. Think fruits, vegetables and lean meats to name a few. But is a healthy diet enough?

The experts haven’t agreed yet. What’s new. But here is the important thing: your body isn’t able to produce minerals. You’ll have to swallow each and every mineral your body needs. Which is exactly why I choose to supplement my diet (which isn’t that bad by the way) by taking mineral tablets. Just to make sure I do all I can. But like I said: that’s just me. It’s up to you to decide what to do. Whatever you decide, please make sure you see your doctor first.

How To Survive Stress

Anxiety disorders are often a product of stress. From GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) to panic disorder, you can cut back on the anxiety in your life simply by reducing stress. Stress is normal in daily life no matter who you are, but if you let your stress take control of your life, serious problems will arise. Fortunately, ongoing stress is easy to overcome, but it is important to know the steps to doing so. So here it is, my mini-guide: How To Survive Stress

Stress is an internal reaction triggers by external factors, like pressure. One of the best ways to overcome these reactions is with plenty of exercise. Daily exercise can help you learn to physically deal with stress by improving your tolerance to stress during exercise. During a panic attack, most people feel short of breath and a pounding heart. A hard workout gives you these same experiences, but in a healthy way. AS you exercise more and more, you push your body to accept these conditions without panicking.

Getting a good night’s sleep is also very important to reducing stress. Stress can physically wear out a person’s body, and without sleep, you will feel the effects of stress much more readily. This can lead to anxiety disorders very easily. To get enough sleep, make sure that you schedule at least 8 hours for sleeping. Don’t eat or drink lots of sugar or caffeine products before bedtime and try to do relaxing activities in the few hours before bedtime. If necessary, see your doctor for help with sleeping problems.

Another key to reducing stress is to schedule time for non-work related activities. Take vacations or at least days off in order to have fun. Work is a major cause of stress, and with that stress comes worry about money, health, and many other things. By setting aside specific time to enjoy yourself with loved ones or on your own, you can physically and mentally set aside the stress for at least a few hours. Try to have at least an hour to yourself every day and an entire long weekend every few months to purely enjoy fun activities.

Lastly, work to reduce stress by learning to think a bit differently about life. Some of the most stressed-out people are perfectionists. While this can be a good trait, it can also go too far. Know when you have to let something go to stay out of trouble. Also, think positively about your life. When you worry that you aren’t good enough or are upset about little things, they really add up to hurt you. Managing your thought process is just part of the battle, but if you work at reducing stress, you can avoid developing anxiety problems.

Now you know how to survice stress. One more thing though. Stress is not a sign of depression. These are two separate things, although stress can cause several types of depression, among other things you don’t wane see happening. Stress can even cause hair loss.

Damn I’m Good!

Found a great website. Well, actually it’s a HubPage. Guess who made it? A guy called Kenneth Kender. Boy, can this guy write! Pulitzer Prize material. I kid you not!

Kennet Kender…?
Damn, that’s me!

Anyhow. Never heard of HubPages untill this morning. It’s a system that allows you to create your own webpages without the hassle of learning code and other tech stuff. It’s great and really easy. I’ve been told Google loves them so maybe the page will bring some people to this blog. They’re welcome. If they click the ads on top of this page… :)

He, listen, I have to pay rent too ya know!

It took me maybe 45 minutes to create http://hubpages.com/hub/Signs-Of-Depression. Writing the content took me longer than building the page. Cool!

Not bad huh? Trust me, if I can do it…

What Causes Hair Loss

Got a call from a friend last week. He wanted to know what causes hair loss. For another friend, of course. He tried to sound casual. But that didn’t work :) First of all I wanted to know why he called me. My scalp is coverd! Turned out he didn’t know who else to call. What makes ‘m all think I’m the go-to-guy when it comes to the flu, bruces and other physical or mental challenges? “Because you are healthy”, he said. Yeah, sure. Next time do your own homework lazy b*st*rd. Ever heard of Google :)

Anyway, what causes hair loss? Not an easy question. There are numerous known causes and probably some unknown as well. You can inherit hair loss and you can lose hair because of poor nutrition or even stress. So far I’ve been lucky. My brother seems to have “claimed” all the the bad genes as het started to lose hair pretty young while I haven’t lost a single hair.

Bad genes is the most common cause of hair loss, but there are plenty more. I’ve found the answers on www.whatcauseshairloss.net. Basic site, butt ugly actually, but all info you need is there.

Riboflavin. What the heck is Riboflavin…

Does having an endless supply of energy sounds good to you? Start supplementing your diet with riboflavin! Never heard of it? Oh yes you have! It is commonly referred to as vitamin B2.

You probably think you get your every day energy from the foods you eat. And right you are. However, there is a BIG but: the food you eat needs enzymes to release energy. And guess what produces these enzymes? Riboflavin. Right! You smart cookie!

BTW, producing energy isn’t the only thing riboflavin does:

1. Riboflavin creates anti-bodies. Together with vitamin C Riboflavin makes a great one-two-punch to help your immune system to put up a figjht with a cold or flu.

2. There is an old saying that the secret to a long healthy life is having a clean digestive system and intestinal tract. Riboflavin works hard to keep this area in top shape so it should be at the top of your list for supplementation.

3. Although this hasn’t been proven to be conclusive, riboflavin may help to improve your memory, especially when you are over the age of 50.

4. Riboflavin helps keep your skin, eyes, nails, and hair in good health. How many reasons do you need to start supplementing your diet with Riboflavin?

Children, Vegetarians, The Elderly: 3 Groups That Should Take Vitamins And Why You Should Too

For most people the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) just isn’t good enough anymore. Your body needs 13 different types of vitamins and at least 10 minerals in order to function. Do you get them each and every day? I know I don’t. Therefore, you, me and almost everyone becomes healthier from taking supplements.

Let’s face it, the RDA gives you the minimum that the average person needs. Are you an “average” person? I ain’t, that’s for sure. My body is built and works differently from yours. So how do we know which vitamine and mineral supplement will help and which will not?

Age, sex, family medical history, live style, and of course your overall personal health are all factors that comes into play when you decide if you should take supplements. However, there are three groups that are prime candidates for vitamin and mineral supplementation:

Kids & Adolescence
Kids and teens grow up at a fast rate. Therefore their bodies can realy use some more vitamins and minerals, especially since we’ve come to know that kids nowadays do not get the proper nutrition to fuel their growth. Did you now that an astonishing 10% of all toddlers is iron deficient?

Vegetarians
If you don’t eat meat, you are missing quite a number and quite an amount of essential vitamins and minerals. If you are eating properly it is possible to digest all vitamines and minerals your body need. But let me tell you: it’s a hell of a job. If I was a veggie, I’d take supplements anyhow.

The Elderly
It’s sad, but the elderly (let’s say over the age of 60) often don’t get enough vitamins and minerals. Therefore every senior citizen should take supplements. At this age, your body needs all the help it can get to keep you healthy.

And what about you?
Are you healthy? Do you feel strong and empowered every single day? If so, I bet you take supplements. If you don’t, you really should consider some extra vitamins and minerals. In doubt? Go and see your doctor and ask him for advice.

5 Reasons Why Everyone Should Supplement With Extra Vitamin A

1. Studies show that kids who get some extra vitamin A get over the measles much faster. When they can’t escape the measles anyhow, they show fewer complications.

2. Vitamin A can aid in preventing complications that result from certain cancer treatments. When you have cancer and are going through chemotherapy or other radiation treatment, it can dramatically lower your immune system. When this happens, your body is prone to pick up infections and other viruses that are floating around.

3. When your body lacks vitamin A it becomes susceptible to viral infections. If you are suffering from a virus then a vitamin A supplements will speed up recovery. It’s best to chooise Vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene.

4. Vitamin A (beta-carotene) can help increase the amount of infection fighting cells within your immune system. That why AIDS patients and cancer patients are often told to take Vitam A supplements.

5. It’s obvious you should try to eat foods that are rich in beta-carotene. That shouldn’t be hard. Think of fruits, tomatoes, carrots and any kind of dark green leafy vegetables. But if it is, you can and should supplement your diet with vitamin A.

Do You Really Need To Take Vitamin & Mineral Supplements?

Do you believe that everyone can get all of the vitamins and minerals that their body requires need just by simply eating a healthy diet? That is what some experts say, but are they right?

In recent years, more and more studies have proven the fact that people still need to supplement their diets with vitamins and minerals.  Regardless of how healthy and nutritional your diet may be, the chances are high that you are still missing some key nutritional ingredients within your body.

On the other hand, there is a slight chance that the average person can get everything they need from food alone, but I have yet to meet that person. It takes quite a bit of energy, as well as finances, to do all of the food shopping and preparation that it would take to fulfill 100% of the body’s nutritional needs. Life is busy, and unless you can afford to hire someone to shop for your food and prepare your meals, you are like most of us and in need of a vitamin/mineral supplement.

Most people just don’t try hard enough!

On the other end of the spectrum, it is clear that most people simply do not make the attempt to get in all of their nutritional needs that they should. Take a look at the research poll below and you’ll understand this point:

  • The majority of adult men do not meet the RDA for magnesium and zinc.
  • The majority of adult women do not meet the RDA for zinc, iron, vitamin B6, magnesium, vitamin E, and calcium.
  • Less than one out of five Americans eat at least five fruit and vegetable servings per day.
  • One person out of those five eats absolutely no fruits or vegetables at all.
  • Less than 20% eat dark green leafy vegetables and even those servings are on the low end.

You cannot substitute good food with just vitamins and minerals

If you are realizing your need for more nutrition and more vitamins in your daily diet, it is important for you to understand that taking vitamins and minerals in no way replaces that of good food. Remember, the term is called a “supplement” which means something that supplements your diet.

A good analogy would be to think of vitamin supplements as insurance, insurance for your body. By eating healthy and making the extra attempt to ingest fruits and vegetables on a daily basis, taking that vitamin and mineral supplement will be “insuring” your body in case there is a lack of nutrition that you may not be getting from the food you eat.
